The Calorie Labelling Business Resource

From the 6th April 2022, certain businesses in England will have to display the calorie content of the food they sell. It’s part of new legislation that was introduced in 2021 to tackle obesity. The initiative applies to large out-of-home food businesses, including restaurants, cafes and takeaways with more than 250 employees. The Calorie Labelling Business Resource, an initiative supported by Nutritics, was set up to help food businesses across the UK to adjust to the new regulation.

Nutritics is currently the only company in the world to have been awarded the Gold Standard Recipe Calculation Accreditation by the European Food Information Resource (EuroFIR). The Calorie Labelling Business Resource is dedicated to providing free, expert information and support to businesses that wish to comply with upcoming legislation regarding calories labelling and the mandatory requirement for certain businesses to include calorie information on menus.

Everything Your Business Needs for Calorie Labelling Compliance

Adding calories to your menu doesn’t need to be a burden. Here’s everything you need to know!

What Businesses Are Impacted by New Calorie Labelling Legislation?

Food businesses operating within the out-of-home sector in England, that employ more than 250 staff are subject to new calorie labelling legislation. However, certain foods and businesses are exempt from the law. Learn more about these exemptions and find out if your business will be impacted by the new legislation.

3 Month Plan for Food Operators

In order to comply with new calorie labelling legislation, our advice is to break down the implementation process into manageable chunks. We suggest the 4S Approach where you focus on:

  • Suppliers: Including making a list and contacting suppliers.
  • Stock: Auditing all ingredients and products.
  • Software: Assessing your existing software and menu management systems
  • Staff: Training and preparing your team.

Food Labelling Business Community

The Food Labelling Business Community is an open forum for businesses to share resources and information that will help their businesses to be fully compliant with food labelling regulation. The platform was first initiated in the lead up to Natasha’s Law, to help businesses prepare for the UK Food Information Amendment. The platform shared dozens of panel discussions, live events, tools, resources and guides, for free, supporting thousands of businesses all over the UK.

The community forum is now being used to help businesses adapt to the latest legislation regarding food labelling and calorie menu labelling. Through the community hub you will be able to meet, and ask questions to, some of the industry’s most well-respected thought leaders and regulatory experts.
